The award winning idea People’s Intelligence (PI) aims to empower victims and witnesses of mass atrocities and humanitarian crises.
What
PI automates the collection of relevant information from hard-to-access areas and verifies the information using crowd-sourcing and “dumb” mobile phones.
Why
PI addresses many of the shortcomings of current crowd-sourced documentation initiatives such as data relevance, quality and credibility as well as source reliability.
How
PI makes use of low cost GSM technology and smart syntactic and semantic analytics to converse with victims and witnesses to collect and verify relevant information.
The envisaged tool helps victims and witnesses better document and verify their stories and provides them as well as relevant organizations with actionable information, thereby facilitating early warning and targeted assistance. It supports syntactic and semantic analysis and allows networking between affected individuals, communities, relevant organizations and experts through the use of ubiquitous technologies. PI‘s technology is highly portable and can be applied in multiple domains and settings, including but not limited to citizen journalism, election monitoring, environment degradation, corruption and good governance, labour rights and businesses’ accountability.
Humanitarian protection principles are at the core of our work.
